Yesterday we got a walk-in 14 at 2:00 in the afternoon. I had been serving since 9:00 a.m. and I was overwhelmed. After I took their drink order, I cried at the hostess podium. Then I cried in the kitchen. Everyone stopped. Someone got my boss.
My boss gave me a five-minute hug that seemed to make my sadness and tears disappear. She said, “You’re overwhelmed,” to me and I agreed. After the hug ended, she left the kitchen. I immediately started to pour drinks and fetch my table’s beers. I bounced back.
There are things in life that are easy. Most of the good things are hard, though, like working and relationships. I can’t say enough good things about the people I work for. I’ve never met such cool, compassionate, helpful people in my entire life. What can I say? I’m lucky.
